Board president casts lone no vote R-1 votes 6-1 to increase tax levy

The Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education voted 6-1 to accept a tax rate increase for the first time in two years during last night's monthly meeting following the annual tax levy review. The increase is just under 1 1/2 percent, or slightly more than five cents for every $100 of assessed valuation. According to Superintendent of Finance Rod Priest, the bump was recommended by the state auditor because of an overall decrease in the assessed valuation of property within the school district...
