Willis W. Hufford, 97, of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, January 7, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hufford, the son of the late Elzie and Loveda (Gough) Hufford was born Feb. 20, 1921 in Flint, Michigan. He was a member of the Green Forest Church of Christ. He was a retired carpenter with St. Louis Carpenter Pension Shop and Mills. Mr. Hufford was a member of American Legion Post 153. A Poplar Bluff man made his first court appearance Monday after being charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman, whose family reported her missing. City firefighters responded at 2:48 p.m. Friday to report of subject trapped in an elevator at 100 N. Main St., the Butler County Courthouse. According to the report, upon arrival, firefighters found the subject had already got out of the elevator on their own.
