September is Hunger Action Month, according to Sarah Garner, chief advancement officer for the Southeast Missouri Food Bank and Poplar Bluff Mayor Steve Davis. Nicholas Lee Barnes, 42, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at his home. Nick was born on Aug. 27, 1980, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to the late Bryan Barnes and Mary Ann Allen. Nick lived most of his life in Poplar Bluff, where he was raised by his mother and stepfather Clark Allen, whom Nick called and considered his “Dad.”...

Eugene “Gene” James Eubanks, 89, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at PBRMC in Poplar Bluff. He was born Wednesday, March 29, 1933, to William and Margie (Meadows) Eubanks, who preceded him in death. He married Rebecca Spence in St. Louis, in 1956. She preceded him in death in 2009...

Birdie “Mae” Lambert, 86, of Fisk, Missouri, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mrs. Lambert was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Fisk, daughter of the late William and Maude White. She worked at Smiley Container in Poplar Bluff for several years. She also worked at Purolator Filter in Dexter. Mae enjoyed flower gardening and feeding the hummingbirds. She had been a member of Palace of Praise in Poplar Bluff for 35 years...

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL Carson D. James, 18, of Sikeston was arrested at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, in Stoddard County on suspicion of DWI (alcohol) and failure to drive on the right half of the road. He was released. An 18-year-old man sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident at 12:59 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, on County Road 142E-24, 10 miles east of Doniphan...

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT An employee at United Gospel Rescue Mission reported at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, the front door glass was damaged. Officers responded at 10:21 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, to SEMO Behavioral Health at 101 S. Main St. for an adult female trying to damage windows and shouting her chest was going to explode. The patient was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center...

A Perry County School District bus driver died in a wreck Tuesday morning. There were no children on the bus at the time. James Kennedy, 72, was driving Bus 3 for the district a little after 6 a.m. southbound on Route K in Perry County when he overcorrected on a curve and struck the front left of a box truck driven by Chad Taylor, 45, which was traveling in the opposite direction, according to a report from the state Highway Patrol. ...
